Miriam K. Were receives the Hideyo Noguchi Africa PrizeMama Miriam (Professor Miriam K. Were) was presented with the Hideyo Noguchi Africa Prize for Medical Services by the Prime Minister of Japan Mr, Yasuo Fukuda at a lavish ceremony at the Queen’s Grand Ballroom, Pan Pacific Yokohama Bay Hotel in Japan. Their Imperial Majesties the Emperor and Empress of Japan and 40 African Heads of State graced the historic occasion.

Mr. Humphreys R. Were, Chairman of the Board of Trustees and Co-founder, represented the UZIMA Foundation Board of Trustees, while Mrs. Malesi E.K. Kinaro, Executive Director UZIMA Foundation, represented the UZIMA Foundation staff.

Professor Brian Greenwood, Manson Professor of Clinical Tropical Medicine at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine was awarded the Hideyo Noguchi Africa Prize for Research at the same ceremony.
